I use both a nail trimmer and a nail grinder to trim nails. Some K9s prefer one over the other some K9s let me use both. I always do whatever the K9 is most comfertable with. Unlike a grooming shop I do not charge extra for grinding the nails. Using a nail grinder is beneficial for two reasons. One I am able to get the nail significantly shorter without bleeding the quick and two after trimming nails are sharp and can scratch their human friends arms and legs. Grinding sands the nails down and give them a smooth edge so they are less likely to scratch.
It is essential to keep your K9s teeth clean to avoid painful infections and costly dental procedures. I use a brushless dental gel that is specially formulated to be safe for K9s to ingest and helps remove plaque that has already built up. It is also mint flavor to give your K9 nice fresh breath! I also check the condition of your K9s teeth and advise you if any further action should be taken to keep their teeth in good condition. For K9s who have teeth in great condition a cleaning during your regularly scheduled appointment is fine. If you K9s teeth have some plaque built up I usually recommend you brush them 1-2 times a week. For K9s with teeth in bad condition I recommend a daily brushing or possibly a dental cleaning. You can purchase all the supplies you need through ALL4K9 for a much cheaper price then at the pet store. Check out my oral care page in the retail store section. I also sell Greenies which are a healthy treat K9s love that clean their teeth while they eat them! Check out the options on the Greenie Page. If your K9 has bad breath that you want to do something about I also sell breath freshening gels and water additives! Also on the oral care page!
Cleaning your K9s ears is important to keep an eye on the condition of the ears. Since most K9s have ears that hang down many owners dont look inside to see if there are any problems. I use a gentle ear cleaner that removes wax and dirt so I can check for the signs of infection. Once again I will advise if your K9 has clean ears cleanings at your regularly scheduled appointments are fine but if your K9 has dirty ears I may recommend you clean them 1-2 times a week. If there is an infection present I will let you know if you need to take them to the vet or if it is treatable at home with a product I use called Zymox. Check out the ear cleaners & medications page in the retail store section for more information.
